The latest Pokémon Go update introduces the buddy system which lets you walk around with your favorite Pokémon and together with it came a Pikachu Easter Egg surprise.
The fun begins when you select Pikachu as your buddy. It will appear alongside your avatar on your profile screen. After walking 10 km with Pikachu as your buddy, Pikachu will hop up onto your shoulder. For the first 10 km, Pikachu will appear on the ground next to the trainer’s avatar.
Similar to the Easter Egg which let trainers control their Eevee evolution by renaming their Eevee Rainer for Vaporeon, Pyro for Flareon, and Sparky for Jolteon, this Easter Egg is a reference to the Pokémon anime. In the series, Pikachu wasn’t particularly fond of his trainer, Ash on the early episodes. But as time passes, their bond grew stronger and Pikachu began riding on Ash’s shoulder.
